Day-by-Day Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Chengdu β Panda Base
Arrive at Chengdu. Afternoon: Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding β watch pandas munch bamboo, play, and climb trees in their naturalistic enclosures. Best visited in the morning when pandas are most active. Evening: Sichuan hotpot dinner at a local favorite. Overnight in Chengdu.
Day 2: Chengdu to Leshan β Giant Buddha
Morning drive to Leshan (2h). Visit the Leshan Giant Buddha β a 71m-tall stone Buddha carved into a cliff face overlooking the confluence of three rivers. Take the boat for the best full-body view. Afternoon: drive to Mount Emei foothills. Explore Baoguo Temple and the lush monastery grounds. Overnight at Emei Mountain.
Day 3: Mount Emei β Golden Summit
Early start. Take the shuttle bus and cable car to the Golden Summit (3,099m). Visit the magnificent Huazang Temple, the 48m-tall gilded Samantabhadra statue (visible from miles away), and the spectacular 'Sea of Clouds' phenomenon (weather permitting). Descend in the afternoon. Drive back to Chengdu. Overnight in Chengdu.
Day 4: Chengdu β Jinli & Kuanzhai Alleys
Morning: explore Kuanzhai Alley (Wide & Narrow Alleys) β Qing Dynasty courtyard homes converted to teahouses, artisan shops, and Sichuan snack stalls. Afternoon: Jinli Ancient Street β a 1,800-year-old commercial street with red lanterns, Sichuan opera face-changing performances, and local crafts. Evening: free exploration of Chengdu's food scene. Overnight in Chengdu.
Day 5: Fly to Jiuzhaigou
Morning flight to Jiuzhaigou Huanglong Airport (1h). Transfer to Jiuzhaigou Valley. Afternoon: explore Zharu Valley or visit a Tibetan village near the park. Evening: Tibetan-style dinner with yak meat, butter tea, and traditional songs. Overnight at Jiuzhaigou entrance.
Day 6: Jiuzhaigou Valley Full Day
Full day in Jiuzhaigou National Park. Ride the eco-bus system through three valleys: Rize Valley (Five Flower Lake, Panda Lake, Pearl Shoal Waterfall β the widest waterfall in China), Zechawa Valley (Long Lake, Five Color Pond), and Shuzheng Valley (Nuorilang Waterfall, Shuzheng Lakes). The turquoise, mineral-rich waters and multi-tiered waterfalls are unlike anywhere else on Earth. Overnight at Jiuzhaigou entrance.
Day 7: Departure
Morning free for a final walk near the park. Transfer to Jiuzhaigou Airport for your departure flight. Your Sichuan journey concludes with memories of pandas, Buddha, sacred mountains, and fairy-tale waters.
