Day-by-Day Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Chengdu
Arrive at Chengdu. Afternoon: Panda Base — watch giant pandas and red pandas at their most active. Evening: Sichuan hotpot and Jinli Ancient Street. Overnight in Chengdu.
Day 2: Dujiangyan & Mount Qingcheng
Day trip to Dujiangyan (1.5h). Visit the 2,300-year-old Dujiangyan Irrigation System — a UNESCO site that tamed the Min River without a single dam. Afternoon: Mount Qingcheng — birthplace of Taoism, with misty peaks, ancient temples, and peaceful forest trails. Return to Chengdu. Overnight in Chengdu.
Day 3: Sanxingdui & Jinsha — Ancient Shu Civilization
Morning: Sanxingdui Museum (1h from Chengdu) — the 3,000-year-old bronze masks, gold staff, and divine trees of a mysterious lost civilization that predates Chinese written history. Afternoon: Jinsha Site Museum in Chengdu — the successor civilization to Sanxingdui, with the iconic Sunbird gold foil. Overnight in Chengdu.
Day 4: Leshan Giant Buddha
Day trip to Leshan. Morning: Leshan Giant Buddha — walk the cliffside path and take the river boat. Explore Lingyun Temple and Mahao Cliff Tombs. Afternoon: Oriental Buddha Capital with 3,000+ Buddhist statues from around the world. Return to Chengdu. Overnight in Chengdu.
Day 5: Mount Emei — Golden Summit
High-speed train to Emeishan (1.5h). Full ascent to Golden Summit (3,099m): cable car, Huazang Temple, 48m Samantabhadra statue, Sea of Clouds, and the Buddha's Halo phenomenon. Descend and overnight at Emei foothills.
Day 6: Fly to Jiuzhaigou
Morning train back to Chengdu. Afternoon flight to Jiuzhaigou (1h). Transfer to Jiuzhaigou Valley. Evening: Tibetan village visit — yak butter tea, prayer flag ceremony, traditional dinner. Overnight at Jiuzhaigou entrance.
Day 7: Jiuzhaigou Valley Full Day
The most magical day. Full day in Jiuzhaigou: Rize Valley (Five Flower Lake, Panda Lake, Pearl Shoal), Zechawa Valley (Long Lake, Five Color Pond), Shuzheng Valley (Nuorilang Waterfall). The turquoise mineral lakes and multi-tiered waterfalls are surreal. Overnight at Jiuzhaigou entrance.
Day 8: Huanglong National Park
Morning drive to Huanglong (1.5h). Ascend via cable car to Huanglong Valley — a 3.6km-long golden travertine terrace with thousands of turquoise pools cascading down the mountainside, surrounded by virgin forest and snow peaks. The Five Color Ponds at the top are the highlight. Return to Jiuzhaigou. Overnight at Jiuzhaigou.
Day 9: Departure
Morning transfer to Jiuzhaigou Airport. Your comprehensive Sichuan journey concludes with memories of pandas, ancient civilizations, sacred mountains, and fairy-tale waters.
