Tour Overview
The ultimate shore excursion — fly from Tianjin to Xi'an to witness the 8,000 Terracotta Warriors, one of the world's greatest archaeological discoveries. This 4-day tour maximizes your port time: fly to Xi'an (1.5h), spend two full days exploring the warriors, ancient city walls, and the Muslim Quarter, then fly back to Tianjin for your ship. Include Tianjin's own Porcelain House and Hai River evening for a complete pre- or post-flight experience. For cruise passengers who want the Terracotta Warriors (an absolute must-see) without committing to a full China tour, this is the most efficient way.

Day-by-Day Itinerary
Pick up from Tianjin International Cruise Port. Morning: Tianjin city tour — Porcelain House (the mind-blowing mansion covered in ancient porcelain), Ancient Culture Street, and Tianhou Temple. Lunch with Tianjin street food (jianbing, goubuli baozi). Afternoon: fly to Xi'an (~1.5h). Arrive by evening. Check into your hotel inside the Ancient City Walls. Evening: first walk through the Muslim Quarter — the scent of cumin-grilled lamb skewers fills the air, red lanterns hang over cobblestone streets, and vendors call out in Xi'an dialect. Try yangrou paomo (crumbled flatbread in lamb soup — the iconic Xi'an dish). Overnight in Xi'an.
Morning: Terracotta Warriors Museum — the moment you walk into Pit 1 is unforgettable: 6,000 life-size warriors standing in battle formation, each face unique (no two are the same), more being excavated in real-time. This is the army of Qin Shi Huang, China's first emperor (259-210 BC). Visit Pit 2 (cavalry and archers), Pit 3 (the command center — the "war room"), and the Exhibition Hall with the bronze chariots (the largest ancient bronze artifacts ever found). The warriors were originally painted in vivid colors that faded upon exposure to air — conservation technology is now advanced enough that newly excavated warriors can preserve their 2,200-year-old paint. Budget 3-4 hours. Afternoon: Huaqing Hot Springs at the foot of Mount Li, where Tang Dynasty emperors bathed and where the Xi'an Incident (1936) changed China's course. Optional: Tang Dynasty music and dance show in the evening. Overnight in Xi'an.
Morning: Xi'an Ancient City Wall — the best-preserved city wall in China (14km, 12m high). Rent a bike and cycle the full circuit (about 1.5-2 hours) — the views over the old city (inside) and modern Xi'an (outside) are spectacular. Then the Great Mosque — one of China's oldest and largest mosques (742 AD), built entirely in Chinese temple style with pagodas, courtyards, and gardens (not a dome or minaret in sight — a unique fusion of Islam and Chinese architecture). Afternoon: Shaanxi History Museum — one of China's great museums, with artifacts spanning 13 dynasties (Xi'an was capital for 1,100 years). The Tang Dynasty gold and silver, the Han Dynasty jade burial suits, and the Tang Dynasty murals are the highlights. Then Big Wild Goose Pagoda — the 1,300-year-old pagoda where the monk Xuanzang (inspiration for Journey to the West's "Tripitaka") stored the Buddhist scriptures he brought from India. Evening: last stroll through the Muslim Quarter — souvenir shopping (terracotta warrior replicas, shadow puppets, paper cuts). Overnight in Xi'an.
Morning flight back to Tianjin (~1.5h). Arrive Tianjin by midday. If time before cruise departure: visit the Five Great Avenues (Wudadao) — bike through the European villas, or the Italian Style Town. Or simply relax at a Hai River cafe. Transfer to Tianjin International Cruise Port with time to board before sailing.
