Take the park shuttle to each viewing platform and stay for sunset when the mountains seem to catch fire with color. Overnight in Zhangye.
Day 2: Zhangye β Jiayuguan β Fortress & Great Wall

Walk the ramparts, climb the gate tower for desert-mountain panoramas. Afternoon: Overhanging Great Wall climbing a steep 150m ridge, and the Wei-Jin Tombs with vivid 1,700-year-old Silk Road murals. Overnight in Jiayuguan.
Day 3: Jiayuguan β Dunhuang β Mogao Caves & Desert Sunset
Morning high-speed train to Dunhuang (2.5h). Afternoon: Visit the legendary Mogao Caves β a UNESCO World Heritage site with 492 preserved cave temples containing 45,000 square meters of Buddhist murals painted over 1,000 years. Your guided tour covers 8 representative caves (including the famous 35.5m Buddha statue in Cave 96). Late afternoon: Head to Mingsha Sand Dunes. Climb the dunes or ride a camel, then watch sunset over Crescent Moon Spring β a perfectly-formed oasis that has never dried up in 2,000 years. Overnight in Dunhuang.
