6 Days Shenzhen & Guilin Beauty Tour by High-Speed Train — Future Meets Tradition

6 Days | Shenzhen | $999 | China Wonder Tours

Tour Overview

This captivating 6-day journey connects two of China's most contrasting yet complementary worlds: Shenzhen, the hyper-modern 'Silicon Valley of Hardware,' and Guilin, the timeless karst landscape immortalized in Chinese painting and poetry for over a thousand years. The 3-hour high-speed train between them makes this dual-destination trip remarkably smooth. In Shenzhen, you'll witness the 'Shenzhen Speed' — ascend the 4th tallest building on Earth, explore Splendid China Folk Village, and visit the DJI drone headquarters. In Guilin and Yangshuo, you'll cruise the legendary Li River through a fantasy landscape of limestone karsts rising from emerald waters, cycle through rice paddies and ancient villages in Yangshuo's countryside, and climb the dragon's backbone rice terraces at Longji — sculpted by Zhuang and Yao minorities over 650 years. From skyscrapers to bamboo groves, from drone technology to water buffalo plowing rice paddies, this tour captures the breathtaking contrasts that make modern China so endlessly fascinating. Perfect for photographers, nature lovers, and anyone who wants to experience China's extremes — the cutting edge and the ancient soul — in one unforgettable week.

Day-by-Day Itinerary

Day 1: Shenzhen Arrival

Arrive at Shenzhen Bao'an International Airport. Your guide meets you and transfers to your downtown hotel. The rest of the day is free to explore. Shenzhen is one of China's greenest cities with over 1,200 parks. Optional evening: sunset walk along Shenzhen Bay Park's 15km coastal greenway — views of Hong Kong's mountains across the water are spectacular at golden hour. If you're hungry, Shenzhen's food scene reflects its immigrant culture — you'll find excellent cuisine from every region of China. Overnight in Shenzhen.

Day 2: Shenzhen — Skyscrapers, Tech & Miniature China

Full day exploring Shenzhen's greatest hits. Morning: ascend Ping An Finance Centre (599m, 115 floors) for 360-degree views of the Greater Bay Area. Walk the transparent glass floor at 541m. Then visit Lianhua Mountain Park — Deng Xiaoping's bronze statue overlooking the city he willed into existence with his 1992 'southern tour' speech. Afternoon: Splendid China Folk Village — China's iconic landmarks in stunning miniature (Great Wall, Forbidden City, Potala Palace, Three Gorges) plus cultural performances by 25 ethnic groups. Evening: DJI Flagship Store in Nanshan — drone simulators, cutting-edge aerial technology, and the story of how Shenzhen became the world's hardware capital. Walk through the innovative OCT Loft creative district. Overnight in Shenzhen.

Day 3: Shenzhen to Guilin — Reed Flute Cave & City

Morning: take the 3-hour high-speed train from Shenzhen North to Guilin. Watch the landscape transform outside your window — from dense urban skyscrapers to the first karst peaks rising from rice paddies. Your Guilin guide meets you at the station. Afternoon: Reed Flute Cave — a 240-meter-long natural limestone cave filled with spectacular stalactites, stalagmites, and rock formations illuminated by colored lights. Known as the 'Palace of Natural Arts,' it has been a Guilin attraction for over 1,200 years (ancient ink inscriptions date to 792 AD). Then visit Elephant Trunk Hill — Guilin's iconic symbol, a natural rock arch resembling an elephant drinking from the Li River. Evening: walk along the beautifully lit Sun and Moon Pagodas on Banyan Lake in central Guilin. Overnight in Guilin.

Day 4: Li River Cruise to Yangshuo

The highlight of any Guilin trip! Morning: board a cruise boat for the 83km journey down the Li River from Guilin to Yangshuo (~4 hours). This is the landscape that has inspired Chinese poets and painters for millennia — a fantasy world of limestone karst peaks rising vertically from emerald-green waters, bamboo groves swaying on the banks, water buffalo cooling in the shallows, and cormorant fishermen on bamboo rafts. The most iconic view appears on the back of the 20 RMB note — have your guide point it out as you pass. The cruise includes lunch onboard. Afternoon: arrive in Yangshuo, a charming town surrounded by karst peaks. Explore West Street (Xi Jie), Yangshuo's famous pedestrian street with cafes, handicraft shops, and a surprisingly international vibe (it's been a backpacker hub since the 1980s). Evening free. Overnight in Yangshuo.

Day 5: Yangshuo Countryside & Longji Terraces

Morning: experience Yangshuo's legendary countryside by bicycle or electric scooter (your choice). Cycle through a landscape straight out of a Chinese scroll painting: rice paddies reflecting karst peaks, ancient stone bridges, pomelo orchards, and sleepy villages where life hasn't changed much in centuries. Stop at a local farmer's home for tea, visit the 600-year-old Big Banyan Tree, and climb Moon Hill — a natural limestone arch with a perfect crescent-moon hole — for panoramic views. Late morning: drive to Longji Rice Terraces (~2.5 hours from Yangshuo). Afternoon: hike through the 'Dragon's Backbone' — spectacular terraced rice fields that rise from 300m to 1,100m in elevation, sculpted over 650 years by Zhuang and Yao minorities. Visit Ping'an Village, a traditional Zhuang settlement, and climb to the 'Nine Dragons and Five Tigers' viewpoint for the most dramatic panorama. Meet Yao women in traditional embroidered costumes (recognizable by their long black hair wrapped in elaborate coils). Evening: return to Guilin. Overnight in Guilin.

Day 6: Depart Guilin

Breakfast at the hotel. Morning at leisure — perhaps a last stroll along the Li River banks or visit Fubo Hill for one final karst panorama. Your guide transfers you to Guilin Liangjiang International Airport for departure. End of your tech-meets-nature journey.

Travel Tip: Best months: April–May and September–November for pleasant temperatures, clear skies, and the most beautiful light for photography. The Li River cruise is best in spring (lush green) and autumn (golden light). Summer (June–August) is hot and humid with occasional rain but offers dramatic misty karst scenery. Winter (December–February) brings a mysterious mist-shrouded landscape but cooler temperatures. The Longji terraces are most photogenic in late May–early June (water-filled, mirror-like reflections) and late September–early October (golden harvest). Yangshuo cycling is gentle and suitable for all fitness levels; electric scooters are available. Wear comfortable shoes for the Li River boat and Longji hiking paths.
