About the Show
Impression West Lake takes place entirely on — and under — the water of West Lake itself. The stage is submerged, rising on hydraulic lifts to create the illusion of performers walking on water.
The show retells the Butterfly Lovers legend — China's Romeo & Juliet — set to an original score by Grammy-winner Kitaro. With only 2,200 seats, this is the most intimate of Zhang Yimou's Impression series, where the reflection of lights on the lake creates a magical double-image effect.
